Looking ahead to the 2025 season, the AMB (Barcelona Metropolitan Area) put out to tender two shade pergolas for assistance areas for people with reduced mobility on Bogatell and Nova Icaria beaches. URBADIS | microarquitectura studied and developed a proposal with which they won the tender.

The project involves the creation of two accessible climate shelters with a special pergola made from locally sourced wicker, specifically in the municipality of Folgueroles. For this project, we adapted our DAU pergola a modular system in which we apply wicker (or vimet, as it is called in Catalan) and wood structures that result in a denser shade.

The beaches act as oases during the summer months, when temperatures rise and Citizens need a climate shelter to which to turn. Ensuring accessibility for all to this small oasis is essential to meet the needs of the population with some type of mobility impairment; for this reason, the creation of these spaces is ideal for providing an accessible and effective solution for all users. Thanks to the Dau pergola, the temperature can drop by up to 5ºC in its shade.
